Good long shot, RARE full body view of a blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus), underwater, feeding on krill. This is a slow slow approach to a blue whale feeding at the surface of the Pacific Ocean near San Diego, California, the sub species is (Balaenoptera musculus musculus). This Baleen whale has its mouth open, it is gaping wide and scooping up a huge amount of seawater with krill (Euphausia pacifica). It appears the whale’s throat or belly gets bigger and bigger, see fully expanded throat pleats — the pleats appear pale, and then the whale turns slowly and swims away. The water has many particles in it, and the whale seems to get blurry as it swims into the mass of krill. Krill or plankton are most obvious with sunlight on them. Healthy Ocean. Baleen whale feeding on krill. Marine mammal. Plankton. California. North America West Coast.
