Near the surface of the Pacific Ocean near San Diego, California, the subspecies name is (Balaenoptera musculus musculus). This Baleen whale has already scooped up a mouthful of seawater and krill (Euphausia pacifica), the water looks blurry because of all the krill. See expanded throat pleats.
