Hairy Caterpillar on branch (3 of 5) - Spilosoma is a genus of moths in the family Erebidae. This, like most Spilosoma Caterpillars, is dark and hairy. The hairs known as setae are uniformly brown and orage over the whole body, the hairs are used as are a method of protection. It has 3 pairs of true legs, and 5 pairs of prolegs on abdomen.
